The Conscious Child is proud to offer authentic Fair Trade Global Goods as a viable buying alternative in the promotion of peace and social justice for all people around the world. Each beautiful, high quality item is ethically produced. Talented craftspeople in Asia, Latin America, Africa, amongst other Underdeveloped Nations individually handcraft each piece - these items are not mass produced. Since Fair Trade represents only .01% of the $3.6 trillion of all goods exchanged globally, our store would love to see that percentage change!

Fair Trade is a social movement whose goal is to reduce poverty in developing countries by teaching and encouraging fair global trade practices and ensuring an equal and fair partnership between marketers and producers. Fair Trade principles include:

At The Conscious Child, we feel it is our social responsibility to present these items to our customers when each purchase of these fairly-traded products provides fair and decent employment opportunities for artisans in developing countries. They are paid directly for their crafts which bypasses exploitative middlemen, earn a stable income which provides food and education for themselves and their families,  learn to preserve their natural environment for future generations, and maintain their country's cultural traditions (hand-loomed textiles, musical instruments, beadwork, sculpture, etc.) which still today remain an integral component of their daily life.

Our store receives *Brand-New* fairly-traded merchandise from suppliers who work directly with artisans to ensure that Fair Trade is being practiced. When possible, the people responsible for creating these lovely products are introduced in each fairly-traded item description. These items are of some practical use such as clothing, toys, or unique home decoration and remain true to the cultures from which they are being imported. Each Fair Trade purchase supports low-income artisans and their families, reduces poverty, and promotes global peace.
